Scaling a Tech Team

Recruiting and Building the Technology Team

Rent the Runway is a fashion company built on technology that is disrupting the industry by allowing customers to rent their clothing and accessories as opposed to buying an unlimited closet in the cloud. Their challenge is
attracting technical talent and being viewed as a technology company whose product is fashion. We were asked to rapidly scale the technology team (engineering, data and product management).

The key accomplishment during this 9 month project included recruiting and hiring 26 technologists of all different levels – from Associate Engineer to VP of Engineering. In addition, we helped build a recruiting process and programs that encompassed position development, recruiting workflows, interview training, employee referral program contest, recruiting event planning and execution and campus recruiting.

The engagement was so successful, we were asked to return a year later to hire additional technologists.

Establishing a Tech Team

Datasite is a SaaS technology company whose clients are the participants in Merger & Acquisition deals. They created a technology platform for secure deal flow and document ex- change. Their challenge was attracting technical talent at their Minneapolis/St.Paul headquarters. They decided to build an innovation team in a new market – NYC. We were asked to build the 20 person team from ground up.

The key accomplishment for this 10 month engagement included recruiting and hiring the 20 per- son team that was comprised of software engineers, designers and product managers. In building this diverse team, we were also able to create a unique culture for the office. In addition, we were instrumental in building the employment brand for the NYC office, which was no easy undertak- ing for a company that had absolutely no footprint in the highly competitive NYC tech scene.

Innovations & Delivery Team

Delivering tech products takes innovation

ITX Corp. is a global product innovation consultancy that works with clients in a wide range of industry verticals to deliver cutting edge technical products. In order to do so, they must stay current on all the latest technologies and best practices. Their challenge is attracting technical talent on a tight budget.

Over the course of our 4 year relationship, we were able to hire a team of solution architects and innovation leads who are experts in their field, yet fit a very conservative compensation budgets. A-players for a C-player price. We did so by introducing a remote first approach to hiring which allowed us to recruit national talent as opposed to focusing on one local market.

The talent we hired for ITX was so well received that several employees we hired received fast track promotions. This is an ongoing engagement where we are the first to know about their hiring initiatives, giving us a jump start on recruiting.

Building a Niche eCommerce Team

Finding a needle in a hackstack

Media Hive (now an Accenture Interactive company) built their reputation as a leading eCommerce integrator by specializing in Demandware (now SFCC) implementations for leading fashion brands. When we started working with them in 2012 they were a small regional ATG/Oracle systems integrator that over the course of the next 5 years transformed into a national Salesforce Commerce Cloud Partner that won the status of Delivery Partner of the year in 2016 and 2017. They were able to achieve this status in part due to our hiring efforts.

Over the course of our 5 year engagement, we built a 20 person tech delivery team. This was no simple endeavor as the market of SFCC talent is very small and highly demanded. Our team was able to develop relationships with the majority of the talent market in this niche field and in doing so, recruit strictly based on referrals.

Our relationship with the client was so successful, that after the acquisition by Accenture Interactive we stayed on as talent partners and continue to this day to support the former Media Hive team.
